Gerard has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading restructuring lawyers. He has been frequently recognised by the Chamber’s global directory and more recently recognised by Legal 500 Directory for 2018/2019.
He brings over 20 years of significant local and international experience, including acting on some of Australia’s largest workouts and insolvencies.
Gerard has had a number of career highlights including advising a major Australian Bank on the restructure of the global Hastie Group, the restructuring of Cubbie Station and the Redbank Power Station which is part of the Alinta Group.
Gerard’s principle area of practice is acting for borrowers and issuers in the local and international debt markets; including advising on insolvency situations and the various alternatives available to corporations and funders, including refinance arrangements, receiverships, administrations and liquidations as well as jurisdictional issues and international insolvencies including the United States, the UK and other jurisdictions.
Gerard advises both domestic, international Funds and Australia’s leading insolvency practitioners in relation to the provision of senior debt, mezzanine debt, involving complex capital structures, which include international syndicated facilities, bi-lateral facilities, working capital facilities, injection of new money involving super priority of senior debt.
Gerard is aware that in the current market that there are more opportunities for companies to obtain finance from non bank lenders, some of which are very keen to take equity stakes in Australian domestic companies. Accordingly, Gerard and his division will look to facilitating opportunities for Funds and Australian companies who intend to expand or obtain injection of fresh money/equity. This will enable flexible capital solutions to be provided to multiple stakeholders.
