Nicholas Heinecke has joined Madison Marcus as Partner and Group National Head of Real Estate and Development, bringing more than 20 years of experience across property, development and commercial law.
Nic has built his career across national and international firms, specialist practices and in-house roles, advising on complex property transactions, major developments and broader commercial matters.
His practice spans commercial property, development, construction, leasing, joint ventures and corporate and commercial transactions, with experience across the property, government, healthcare, education and renewable energy sectors.
As Group National Head, Nic will lead Madison Marcus’ Real Estate and Development practice nationally, further strengthening the firm’s capabilities across transactions, development, leasing and related commercial matters.
Experience from Both Sides of the Table
One of the strengths Nic brings to Madison Marcus is his experience across both private practice and in-house roles.
Having worked as an external adviser as well as within businesses, he understands the commercial realities that sit behind major transactions and developments. Legal considerations are important, but so too are timing, risk, internal stakeholders, commercial relationships and the broader objectives of a project.
That perspective shapes Nic’s approach to client work. He takes the time to understand what a client is ultimately trying to achieve and provides advice that supports that outcome, rather than considering the legal issues in isolation.
His experience across property, government, healthcare, education and renewable energy has also exposed him to a diverse range of projects, commercial objectives and stakeholder environments.
Property, Development and Getting the Deal Done
Nic’s practice sits across property, development and commercial law, allowing him to advise on the different elements that can come together in a significant transaction or project.
His experience includes:
- Commercial property acquisitions and disposals
- Major property developments
- Development and project agreements
- Construction matters
- Commercial and retail leasing
- Joint ventures
- Property due diligence
- Corporate and commercial transactions
- Government and institutional property matters\
- Renewable energy projects
This breadth of experience enables Nic to look beyond an individual transaction and consider how its different legal and commercial elements fit together.
He is an outcomes-focused practitioner who thrives on getting deals done. His approach is practical and commercially focused, with an emphasis on identifying the issues that matter, addressing potential obstacles early and maintaining momentum towards completion.
Leading Real Estate and Development Nationally
As Group National Head of Real Estate and Development, Nic will lead Madison Marcus’ property and development practice nationally, working alongside the firm’s existing team to continue building its capabilities across complex transactions, major developments, leasing and commercial property matters.
His appointment brings further senior leadership and depth to a team supporting developers, investors, property owners, businesses, government bodies and other organisations across the property lifecycle.
Nic’s combination of private practice and in-house experience will also play an important role in the continued development of the practice. He understands what clients need from their legal advisers and the importance of advice that is responsive, commercially grounded and focused on achieving the desired outcome.
With more than 20 years of experience and a strong focus on closing deals, Nic’s appointment further strengthens Madison Marcus’ ability to support clients across sophisticated property and development matters throughout Australia.
